You can also search business entities by DFI entity ID number. The ID number consists of one alpha character (A) and six numeric characters (#). The number will be in one of the two formats – either A###### or #A#####. Since the ID number is unique, there’ll be either one or none search results, depending on whether the number belongs to an entity or not.

Step 1

Click on the search box and enter the words you want to search for. Select whether you’re looking for the exact phrase, names that use all of the words or start with the words entered.

You can search in the names of business entities or registered agents. Select the entity status (in existence, no longer in existence, or both) and names (current, old, or both). You can also select one or more available entity types, and enter the dates in between you think the registration date was. Click on the Search Records button below.

Step 2

Review the search results you’ve got. Click on the hyperlinked entity name for more details or refine your search criteria to get different results. When searching for the registered agent, only the current names are searched. You can try variations of a name to get different search results. Pay special attention to individual surnames that are compounded with prefixes (try with and without spaces and apostrophes).

Open the Washington Secretary of State’s website, and select Corporations – Corporations Home from the main menu at the top of the page. Find the Business Search button on the middle of the page or follow this link to access the Business Search immediately.

You can perform Corporation Search by business name or UBI. Click on the corresponding search box, and enter your search terms. Above the search box, you can select whether you want to search for business entities whose name contains or begins with the search terms you entered, or if you’re looking for an exact match. Use these options to narrow the search results. When searching by UBI, you must enter the exact number. Click Search.

Step 2

If there are no records that match your search criteria, the table with the results will be empty (there might be a message that says “No Value Found” or a pop-up window with a message “null”).

When there are records, all business entities that match your search criteria will be listed and you’ll be able to see their name, UNI, type, status, principal office address, and the name of the registered agent.

Step 3

For additional information about one of the businesses listed in the search results, click on its business name. The additional business information includes both principal office street and mailing address, jurisdiction, formation/registration, and expiration date, as well as an inactive date if applicable, nature of the business, and period of duration. How to Submit a Request for an SOSDirect Account in Texas

If you don’t have an SOSDirect account, and at the moment don’t want to request one, you can use a temporary login form.

Step 1

Fill out the form (you’ll need to provide your name or the name of your business, full address, phone number, and email address). Once you’re done, click on the Continue button below.

Step 2

Select one of the available card types (as a temporary user, you can use only a Credit Card) and enter credit card information exactly like on the card statement. Click Continue.

As a temporary user, you can only perform web inquiries and place orders. You won’t be able to submit filings. To create an SOSDirect account, you should follow this link and click on the request for SOSDirect Account link. Unlike the temporary login form, this will give you full access.

Step 1

Enter either the name of your business or your full name (first and last name are required fields) and click Continue.

Step 2

Enter your full address and set up an alpha-numeric password that meets the requirements. Click Continue.

Step 3

Provide credit card information for verification and security purposes. Click Continue. Once you’ve submitted the SOSDirect account request, you’ll receive your SOSDirect User ID and Password via email (please allow up to one hour for the email to arrive).
If you already have an SOSDirect account, simply proceed to the login page and enter your SOSDirect User ID and Password. Click Submit.

Once you’ve logged into your SOSDirect account, you should click on the Business Organizations tab in the top menu. Select the Name Availability function from the list of available inquiries.

Step 1

Enter the required business entity name to the search box and click on the Search button below.

If the name you’ve been looking for is available for use, there’ll be no search results. However, if there are some business entities whose names match the one you entered into the search box, you’ll get a list with all the business entities and some basic information (name (as well as name type and status), filing number, entity type and status).

You can click on the filing number of one of the entities on this list to access additional entity details. On this page, you’ll be able to view the formation date, duration, tax ID, address, filing history, and more.

First, visit the North Carolina Secretary of State (SoS) website. This is where we’ll conduct our search. We’ll start with the search by company.

Step 1

When you open the SoS search page, a search by company will be selected automatically. From the drop-down menu below, you can select whether you want to search for companies whose names start with selected words, contains any or all selected words, and is an exact match. You can also search companies by SoS ID (Secretary of State Identification Number). Enter the words to search for, and click Search.

Step 2

You’ll get a list with all records that match your search criteria (if you’ve been searching by SoS ID, there’ll be either none or one result). The list will show the entity name, identification number, date of formation, status, and type. You’ll also see several icons you can use for different actions, such as ordering a document online, printing a pre-populated annual report form, adding the entity to your email notification list, or viewing document filings. You’ll need to sign in to use some of these services.

Step 3

If you want to get additional information for an entity, click on its name. Now you’ll be able to see more information, including the office and/or mailing address, company officials, name of the registered agent, annual report due date, etc.

Search by Registered Agents

The second search method we can use to perform business entity search in North Carolina is by registered agents.

Step 1

From the first drop-down menu, select Registered Agents as your search criteria. A new search box will appear below. You can use it to select the search type (organization or individual). Just like before, you can select whether you want to search for names that start with selected words, contain any or all of the words, or the name that is the exact match. Enter the name in the search box below and click Search. If you’ve selected Individual as the search type, you’ll be able to enter the first, middle, or last name of the person you’re looking for.

Step 2

You’ll get a list with all the names, as well as the total number of representations.

Step 3

Click on any of the names for more details. You’ll see a list of all the entities represented by this registered agent, as well as the key information for each of the entities. From this page, you can add all listed entities to your email notification list.

Search by Company Officials

You can also search companies by their officials. This method is similar to the previous one.

Search by Assumed Business Names

The last method we can use to search business entities in North Carolina is by assumed business name.

Step 1

Select Assumed Business Name from the drop-down menu and wait for the search boxes to change.

Step 2

Enter the assumed nameowner, or SOSID according to the instructions below the search box. Below you can select the start and end dates, to only include assumed names which have filed a document during the selected time frame. To include all businesses, just leave these boxes blank. Select counties to search (if you don’t select anything, all counties will be searched). Click Search.

Step 3

You’ll get a list with names and identification numbers.

Step 4

To get more information, click on any of the names. Now you’ll see the date when the information was entered into the SoS statewide database of assumed business name information, as well as the county where it was filed in, the owner’s name, and the Assumed Business Names Certificate available in PDF.

Ohio Business Entity Search Tips

To get accurate results, don’t use punctuation including ” ‘ , # () _ + /. and remove any hyphens (-), as well, and concatenate the words.

You can also use wild cards to get broader search results. The wild cards you can use are percent sign (%) and underscore (_). The percent sign (%) should be used when you don’t know the exact name of the business entity you’re looking for, while the underscore (_) will match only a single unknown character.

You can also use boolean or logical operators. This will allow you to enter multiple words in a search.

  • AND – Use it when you want your search results to include all the entered words.
  • OR – Use it when you want your search results to include at least one of the entered words.
  • NOT – Use it when you want your search results to include the first of the entered words and not the other one.

Business Search by Business Name

First, we’ll search business entities in Ohio by their current names. To do this, visit the Business Search page on the Ohio Secretary of State’s website.

Step 1

Enter the business name to the search box and select whether you’re looking for all business entities, or only for active, canceled, or dead ones. Click Search.

Step 2

If there are no records that match your search criteria, you’ll get the following message “No data available in table”.

And if there are, you’ll get the list of all the business entities including entity number, type, status, location, county, filing and exp.date.

Step 3

To view business details and filings, click on the Show Details button on the right. There you’ll see the agent/registration information, as well as filings. From this page, you can also sign up to receive email notifications of any changes or updates made to this business entity.

Business Search by Exact Business Name

To perform the business search by exact search name, visit the Business Search page using this link.

Step 1

Enter the exact business name to the search box and click on the Search button below.

Step 2

Since we’re looking for the exact match, there’ll be only one result. If the name you entered doesn’t belong to a business entity in Ohio, there’ll be no data available in the table.

Business Search by Prior Business Name

You can also search business entities by their prior names. For this search method, visit this link.

Enter the agent/registrant name (you can enter the full name or just part of it), and click Search.

To perform an Oklahoma business entity search, go to the Search Corporation Entities page on the Oklahoma Secretary of State’s website.

Step 1

Enter the entity name into the search box and click Search.

You’ll get a list with the search results that match the name (or part of the name) you entered into the search box. The list will show the entity name (as well as the name type and status), filing number, entity type, and the name of the registered agent for each of the entities.

Step 3

If you want to view additional information for one of the entities, click on the hyperlinked filing number that corresponds to the selected entity. From this page, you’ll be able to see jurisdiction, formation date, and information about the registered agent. You can view entity detail (for a $5.00 charge), file a document, and order documents, as well. You’ll have to provide your contact information (personal name and email address).

When on the Search Corporation Entities page, you can click on the Advanced Search link below the search box. You’ll be able to select whether you want to search all, active, banks, churches, domestic cooperatives, as well as to search by name of person, registered agent, and to perform name availability or filing number search.

You can use the Name Availability search as a preliminary search for an available business name. The Business Filing Department will decide whether the name is available or not.

Business Search by Registered Agent

When performing a business search by a Registered Agent, you must know that for the entities filed prior to June 25, 2003, registered agents are stored as business names.

Step 1

Select the Search Registered Agent from the list and choose whether you’d want to search for a business or individual. Enter the business name or the first/middle/last name of the registered agent and choose a suffix if needed. The last name is a required field. Click on the Search button below.

Step 2

You’ll get a list with all the records that match your search criteria. From the list you’ll be able to tell the entity’s name, filing number, type, and the name and location of the registered agent. For more information about one of the business entities and the address of the agent, click on the corresponding filing number.

Just like we’ve been searching by the registered agent, we can search by name of the person, as well. All you have to do is select the Search by Name of Person from the list and follow the same steps you followed when searching by the registered agent.

Step 1

Select the Business Name Availability Check as your search method. Enter one or more words to the search bar above (marked as Business Name) and click on the Search for Business Name button below.

If the name you searched for is available, you’ll get the following message “(the name you searched for) appears to be available, however Business Registry staff will make the final determination”.

Otherwise, the message will say “The following names may affect availability” and below you’ll get the key information for business entities that have the same (or similar) name. This is due to the fact that the Name Availability Check looks not only for the exact name but for names that might confuse your future clients and customers. So, even though the name you searched for may seem technically available, you should pay attention to words that sound alike but aren’t spelled the same.

Search by Business Name

Access the Business Name Search like before. When performing a search by a business name, we can use different search methods.

Search Methods (from the most restrictive one):

  • Only exact words in exact word order
  • Exact words in exact word order but followed by anything else
  • Exact words in any word order
  • Sound-alike words in exact word order
  • Sound-alike words in any word order
  • Extended Search in any word order

Step 1

Click on the business name search box and enter the words to look for. Select one of the available search methods, depending on how restrictive you want your search process to be. On the right, you can select whether you want to search for all companies or only for active or inactive ones. Click on the Search for Business Name button below.

Step 2

If there are no search results, you’ll see the following message “Your search did not return business names”. If it’s possible, you can try to search again, using one of the less restrictive search methods. You can return to the search page by clicking on the New Search link on the left.

If there are search results that match your search criteria, you’ll see a list that includes the name of the entity, its registry number, type, and status.

Step 3

To access additional information about one of the entities, click on its name or registry number. Now you’ll be able to see the jurisdiction, registry date (as well as next renewal date and renewal due), foreign name, and non-profit type, as well as associated names and their details. Even though you can perform the New York business entity search only by the corporation or business entity name and the search is pretty simple to use, there are some things you should know prior to starting the search. This will help you get the best possible search results.

To perform the search, you should access the New York State Department of State website, and select the Corporations & Business Entity Database Searches from the menu on the right or Businesses – Business Search from the main menu.

The Search Criteria consist of the Entity Name, Name Type, Search Type, and Captcha. All fields are marked with *, therefore all of them are required.

  • Entity Name – The first box is reserved for the entity name you want to search for. The search isn’t case-sensitive. If you select Contains or Partial as a Search Type, you must enter a minimum of four characters. Enter a larger portion of the name to narrow the search results.
  • Name Type – You must select one of the two available types from the drop-down list. You can either search for Active Only or for All (both active and inactive entities).
  • Search Type – You can choose between three Search Types from the drop-down list – Begins WithContains, or Parcial. When you select the Begins With, you must enter the exact beginning part or entire name of the entity to be searched for, while if you select Contains or Partial, it’s enough if you know at least one of the words that are contained in the entity name. The only difference is that if you select Contains, you must know the whole word, while for Partial you can enter only part of the last word to be searched for. The non-alphanumeric characters are required to be entered exactly as they appear in the name of the business entity.
  • Captcha – Next to the text box you’ll see some numbers you should enter. Don’t wait too long or the Captcha will expire (you’ll be redirected back to the search page).
